The Vital Role of Digital Champion Volunteers
Community Action Dacorum is proud to shine a spotlight on the incredible contributions of our Digital Champion volunteers who are the backbone of our “Staying Connected” project. Thanks to their dedication, countless residents of Dacorum are overcoming digital exclusion and gaining the skills needed to navigate the online world. We are excited to announce that The National Lottery Community Fund has awarded us an additional three years of funding to continue this impactful work.
“Staying Connected” is not just about providing equipment and connectivity; it’s about empowering individuals with the knowledge to use these tools effectively. Our team of Digital Champions offers personalised, one-to-one support, ensuring that everyone can make the most of their new devices and access essential online services.
Understanding and using technology can be daunting, especially for those who are not familiar with it. Without proper guidance, digital devices can be of little use. That’s where our Digital Champions come in. They work closely with individuals to teach them how to use their equipment, access online services, and stay connected with family, friends, and vital resources.
“We cannot overstate the importance of our Digital Champions,” said Dr Simon Aulton, CEO at Community Action Dacorum. “Their one-to-one support is crucial in helping people overcome the barriers of digital exclusion. Our volunteers are patient, knowledgeable, and dedicated to making a real difference in our community.”
“I have noticed that the people I visit perk up, feel more confident and relish the company. I also believe that getting to grips with technology keeps their brain active and helps them to be more of a part of the community by being able to research and access local opportunities themselves.” One of our digital champions – our eyes and ears in the local community

“We are incredibly grateful to The National Lottery Community Fund for recognising the importance of digital inclusion and supporting our project,” added Dr Simon Aulton. “Together with our Digital Champions, we are confident that we can continue to make a positive impact in the lives of many.”
