What is Radio Dacorum?

Radio Dacorum is a community based radio station, broadcast 24/7 through the internet, combining music with an opportunity for residents, voluntary organisations, public authorities and private companies to promote their local activities, along with encouraging a sense of pride in the Dacorum area.

We work with many local groups and organisations, including schools, charities and public bodies giving young people, school children and young adults with extra learning needs, the opportunity to train in the Radio Dacorum office and studio, to upgrade their skills and more importantly, practice communicating with others.

Since 2012 we have seen many success stories, where younger people, especially those with learning difficulties, have benefited enormously from having the time to learn and expand their knowledge, therefore increasing their confidence in speaking on the radio, interviewing guests and working alongside others.

This has transferred into real world skills that has enabled them to grow and develop themselves and discover what they are capable of, this has led to some of them gaining full time employment as a direct result of their increased confidence and communication.

Zak’s story

Through his hard work and determination, Zak has become a confident communicator and skilled presenter, and is now able to train other young people with similar disabilities.

Zak’s journey has been nothing short of inspiring. Not only has he developed valuable skills in radio presenting, but his newfound confidence in his communication has had a positive impact on other areas of his life. He has become more social, outgoing, and independent.
